Stella Nera pieces are designed to be worn every day — but a little care keeps them looking the way they did the moment you opened the box.

Daily Wear

Moissanite is one of the hardest gemstones in the world (9.25 on the Mohs scale, second only to diamond). It's built for daily wear. The setting is the part that needs attention — sterling silver and platinum plating respond to moisture, friction, and chemicals.

What to Avoid

• Water exposure: remove before showering, swimming, or washing dishes
• Lotions, perfumes, and oils: apply these before putting on your jewelry, not after
• Chlorine and saltwater: both accelerate tarnish on sterling silver
• Harsh cleaning products: bleach, ammonia, and household cleaners damage the plating
• Sleeping in your jewelry: friction with bedding can wear down the plating over time

How to Clean

For routine cleaning:

1. Mix a few drops of mild dish soap with warm (not hot) water.
2. Soak the piece for 5–10 minutes.
3. Gently brush with a soft-bristled toothbrush — paying attention to the back of the stone where dust and oils collect.
4. Rinse with clean water.
5. Dry completely with a soft, lint-free cloth before storing.

What NOT to Use

• Ultrasonic cleaners (can loosen prongs)
• Steam cleaners
• Toothpaste, baking soda, or any abrasive paste
• Silver polish on plated pieces (it strips the plating)

Storage

Store each piece separately to avoid scratches:

• Use the original Stella Nera pouch or a soft fabric-lined box
• Keep in a cool, dry place — humidity accelerates tarnish
• For long-term storage, an anti-tarnish strip helps

If Your Piece Tarnishes

Sterling silver naturally develops a patina over time — this is normal, not a defect. For light tarnish, the soap-and-water method above usually restores brilliance. For heavier tarnish, a professional jeweler can re-polish or re-plate the piece.
